In this study, we are discussing one of the most chronic disease, known as diabetes. It has been reported that diabetes is very common in both genders. The diabetes is classified into different categories, on the basis of their treatment and causes. It has been analysed that the people above the age of 30 has more chances of getting the diabetes (Diabetes Uk, 2010).
The main aim and objective of this research study is to successfully manage the diabetes of the patients, by observing their daily routine and giving them useful tips. Moreover, it has been focused to encourage the patients for self monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG).
Diabetes is a severe chronic disease, which may arise due to the poor or lack of production of insulin in the body. This disease is categorised into main stages, according to their symptoms, seriousness and treatment (International Diabetes Foundation, 2019). The four main types of diabetes are defined as follows;
The research study begin by interviewing the patients, above the age of 18, and suffering from the diabetes of type 2. These interviews were semi structured, in which patients were asked about their diet plan, daily routine, medication and other necessary details. For this research the patients were divided into three categories, on the basis of their disease seriousness and current health condition. In the interview the contestants were asked about their daily activities like, which influence the glycaemic control. They were also asked that how many times they self monitored their blood and sugar level.
After assessing the data, it has been analysed that the patient falling in the category of good, fair and poor, according to the seriousness of their disease. It has been found that the participants forget taking their medicines. Some of them forget to take their medicines after every two days and some, on average two times a week. While few of the participants has stopped taking their medicines for the last six months. It has been that those patients who had reduce or forgotten to take their medicine were fall in the category of poor control. It has been reported that around 22 percent of the patients in the category of poor control, have never tested their blood and sugar level. While the patients in good condition were reported to SMBG, two to three times a day. While the patients having their SMBG once a day were reported to be in fair control.
The patients were asked in depth question in this research, in order to have knowledge about their medication and their daily routine activities. Only few patients were know about the glycaemic control. It has been observed that exercise or daily workout is very helpful in reducing the amount of fats in the human body (UK Diabetes, 2012). It is the responsibility of the medical care team to diagnose this disease in early stage, so that it could be treated easily. Some of them has reported to reduce their dose by themselves.
The diabetes may result in damaging main organs of the body such as kidney, liver, eyes, etc. The diabetic patient may lead to death, if he was not treated at initial stages (World Health Organization, 2016). In this research, it has been concluded that by SMBG, helps the medical team in treating the diabetic patient effectively.
